Kępa Mieszczańska – an island enclosed by two branches of the Oder – was, for most of its history, a place on the margins: a floodplain, a port hinterland and, eventually, a closed military barracks zone inaccessible to ordinary residents. On old maps, it remained almost a blank spot for a long time. Today, it is changing at a remarkable pace, but its image is still being shaped more by plans and developments than by the stories of those who live here. At Piekarnia Żywa Kultura (66P Stajnia), we will try to reverse this perspective – to look at Kępathrough the eyes of those who experience it every day and explore the need to be recognised.

During this family workshop, we will create a map of Kępa together – not the official one, but one that emerges from our conversations and memories. On a large piece of fabric, we will mark our everyday routes, favourite and less-liked places, hidden corners, as well as the stories and encounters intertwined with them. Along the way, we will take a short walk together to several selected locations and conclude the meeting by sharing refreshments.

The workshop is open to whole families – adults are welcome to attend with children aged 4 and over. We will work in an atmosphere of openness and curiosity, making sure that every voice is heard and every perspective taken into account. No preparation or experience is required – only curiosity and a willingness to bring along your own stories about the hidden corners of Kępa.
„Kępa Mieszczańska. From Needs to Culture” is a series of neighborhood meetings and workshops organized by 66P, which connect art with the everyday experiences of Kępa’s residents. The starting point is universal needs – such as being noticed, rest, exercise, and a sense of security – around which artistic activities, walks, and workshops are built. The project encourages a more thoughtful look at one’s neighborhood, relationships, and local community, without pressure and without the need for prior art experience.
Biography
PhD Zofia Małkowicz is a researcher (sociologist) and facilitator with an arts background (University of Fine Arts in Poznań: art education, sculpture and spatial activities). For more than 15 years, She has worked with cultural and art institutions, helping them better understand the perspectives of their audiences and develop innovative approaches. Her work is interdisciplinary, combining, among other things, research with art and cultural animation and bringing different groups of people and communities together in dialogue and collaboration. She has worked with the National Centre for Culture, the National Museum in Poznań, film festivals (including Ale Kino!, the British Film Festival and the Animator Festival), ZAMEK Culture Centre in Poznań, the City Culture Institute in Gdańsk, the Municipal Gallery Arsenal in Poznań, and Mediateka – the Tadeusz Różewicz Municipal Library.
