The exhibition presents the results of six weeks of work by two artists whose biographies and artistic languages differ significantly. What they share, however, is a reflection on memory<\/span> and<\/span> time<\/span> as well as their <\/span>parallel activities during the Konrad and Pawe\u0142 <\/span>Jarodzki<\/span> Artistic Residency in <\/span>Krzy\u017cowa<\/span> at the turn of September and October 2025.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Adam Rzepecki <\/span>reflects on<\/span> Krzy\u017cowa<\/span> in the context of overlapping temporalities and the ethical consequences of looking back. <\/span>His<\/span> main source of inspiration was an excerpt from a letter written in 1941 by the founder of the so-called <\/span>Kreisau<\/span> Circle, Helmuth James von Moltke (1907\u20131945): <\/span><\/span>What <\/span>shall I say when I am asked<\/span>:\u202f<\/span>A<\/span>nd what did you do during this time?<\/span><\/span><\/em> Transposed to the present, the question loses its character as a historical quotation and directly refers to the processual nature characteristic of artist residencies.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

It also offers a critical reflection on the requirement for productivity and the key role of archival research, which prompted the artist to <\/span>observe<\/span> the constellation of stars above <\/span>Krzy\u017cowa<\/span> in February and October 2025. As a result, he created a painterly interpretation of time in which the present and the past intertwine, achieved by superimposing two astronomical perspectives. During the residency, in line with <\/span>his<\/span> latest interests, <\/span>Rzepecki also created <\/span>a music notebook that formed the basis for a performance. <\/span>In<\/span> consultation with the artist<\/span> c<\/span>ellist<\/span> Paulina Owczarek premiered a composition inspired by Ludwig van Beethoven<\/span>.<\/span> She used<\/span> a historic instrument<\/span> that<\/span> came into the possession of Esther Braun-Kinnen<\/span> a<\/span>fter <\/span>the Second World War<\/span> with the intention that it <\/span>\u201c<\/span>serve a worthy cause<\/span>\u201d.<\/span> It<\/span> was <\/span>later <\/span>donated to the Foundation, whose goal is to overcome divisions and strengthen European understanding.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Aliaksandr <\/span>Danilkin<\/span> brings out another dimension of this Lower Silesian village<\/span> \u2013 f<\/span>or <\/span>him,<\/span> Krzy\u017cowa<\/span> becomes a point of reference in his reflection on resistance and hope. His experience of living under Alexander Lukashenko\u2019s dictatorship means that the history of the <\/span>Kreisau<\/span> Circle is interpreted as living proof of the possibility of resistance. <\/span><\/span><\/p>

Referring to the Belarusian tradition of <\/span><\/span>malyavanki<\/span><\/span><\/em> (painted wall carpets), <\/span>Danilkin<\/span> creates painterly compositions in which ornament and historical narrative are combined with personal experience. The objects themselves, drawn from Belarusian folklore, were tangible evidence of material culture, protecting local tradition from oblivion. Motifs of <\/span>earth, <\/span>nest,<\/span> and circle function in this context as signs of fragility, <\/span>permanence,<\/span> and the cyclical nature of geopolitical changes.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The painter explored places important from the point of view of <\/span>Krzy\u017cowa\u2019s<\/span> history, such as the House on the Hill and the avenue of oak trees leading to the palace complex. He was also inspired by <\/span>Krzy\u017cowa\u2019s<\/span>role in Poland\u2019s recent history, particularly the historic gesture made by Prime Minister Tadeusz Mazowiecki (1927\u20132013) and German Chancellor Helmut Kohl (1930\u20132017) during the Reconciliation Mass celebrated here on 12 November 1989. This key political act became an important motif in one of the canvases created by <\/span>Danilkin<\/span> during his residency.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Like Rzepecki, the artist also drew inspiration from the stories he heard during his walks around <\/span>Krzy\u017cowa<\/span>, translating one of them<\/span> \u2013 about <\/span>the bell cemetery <\/span>\u2013 <\/span>into visual language.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The projects <\/span>by<\/span> Adam Rzepecki and Aliaksandr <\/span>Danilkin<\/span> create a dual narrative about <\/span>Krzy\u017cowa<\/span> as a place open to future visionary narratives. Both approaches are united by attentive listening to the context of the Lower Silesian residency <\/span>centre<\/span>.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Aliaksandr Danilkin<\/span><\/b> was born in 1996 in Homel, Belarus. Between 2012 and 2020, he studied painting at the State College of Fine Arts and the Academy of Fine Arts in Minsk. During his studies, he fought against censorship imposed by the university, and after the 2020 presidential election he actively participated in protests, expressing his opposition to the dictatorship. He was expelled from the university for his activities and forced to flee his homeland. Since then, he has been using art as a form of protest, addressing contemporary political issues through the prism of Belarusian history and culture.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

He currently lives and works in Wroc\u0142aw, where he defended his thesis at the Faculty of Painting of the Academy of Art and Design. He collaborates with the Pozna\u0144-based Barak Kultury Foundation, organisingnumerous individual and collective exhibitions.<\/span>\u00a0

Adam Rzepecki<\/span><\/b> is a performance artist, sculptor, installation artist, photographer, painter, filmmaker and curator. He studied art history at the Jagiellonian University in Krak\u00f3w.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

In 1979, he founded \u0141\u00f3d\u017a Kaliska \u2013 a group that changed the face of Polish art in the 1980s through its unconventional activities. In the first half of the 1980s, he co-founded Kultura Zrzuty \u2013 a nationwide alternative movement of young art that marked a \u201cthird way\u201d in the bipolar political and social situation of the time. From 1978 to 1981, he ran the Jaszczurowa Gallery of Photography in Krak\u00f3w. Since 2022, he has been active in the UNDERGROUND KRAKOWSKI Supergroup, co-founded with Jerzy Kosa\u0142ka, Zbigniew Libera and Piotr Luty\u0144ski. Recently, he has also been composing music and creating sound installations.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Paulina <\/span>Breli\u0144ska-Garsztka<\/span><\/span><\/strong> is a<\/span> curator, artist <\/span>manager<\/span> and art critic. Member of the research trio \u00bf<\/span>Czy<\/span> badania<\/span> artystyczne<\/span>? (together with Zofia Reznik and Zofia <\/span>Ma\u0142kowicz<\/span>) and <\/span>Proces<\/span> Wsp\u00f3\u0142my\u015ble\u0144<\/span>(dedicated to the implementation of <\/span>artistic research<\/span> in Poland), curator of the OP_YOUNG <\/span>programme<\/span> and the Konrad and Pawe\u0142 <\/span>Jarodzki<\/span> Artistic Residency 2025. <\/span>She<\/span> is associated with the <\/span>Wroc\u0142aw<\/span> Institute of Culture, where she coordinates residency projects and international activities.<\/span> For many years, she has been involved in artistic and curatorial research<\/span>, both theoretically and<\/span> in<\/span> practice<\/span>. In 2018, she <\/span>organised<\/span> the research and curatorial exhibition <\/span><\/span>Voyager\u2019s Record<\/span><\/span>, which <\/span>became the subject of<\/span> her master\u2019s thesis. In 2020, she co-created the first conference in Poland dedicated to artistic research. She experiments with various formats of cooperation between artists, <\/span>institutions<\/span> and magazines, attaching particular importance to international dialogue and the exchange of artistic practices.
